Missing Eagle Lake man found in boxcar

EAGLE LAKE, Maine — An Eagle Lake man who was the subject of a search in Aroostook County on Wednesday¬†has been found.

State police Sgt. Tom Pelletier said Thursday that William Debaise, 41, was found Wednesday evening by railroad workers five miles outside the community.

Pelletier said Debaise was found in a boxcar uninjured and appeared to be in good health.

Debaise left Franciscan Home, a residential care facility located on Route 11,  around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. He last was seen on Old Main Street in Eagle Lake around 2:45 p.m.

Debaise is mentally disabled and is a ward of the state. Police initially believed that he might have been attempting to get to the Portland area.

He was taken to Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent on Wednesday evening for evaluation.
