Cathie Pelletier to teach UMFK summer courses


FORT KENT, Maine — Author Cathie Pelletier will teach two three-credit courses during the University of Maine at Fort Kent’s 2011 summer sessions.

Writing Workshop ll will be offered May 16-June 24, and Stories In the Community will be offered July 5- Aug. 12. Classes for both sessions will be held 1 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Visitors to the writing workshop will include author and professor Ardis Cameron, singer-songwriter David Mallett, Canadian novelist Deborah Joy Corey and Maine Poet Laureate Wesley McNair by Skype.

Participants in the second session will conduct assigned interviews with St. John Valley residents on selected themes: Christmas in Fort Kent: The Early Years; In Common Ground: Graveyards of the St. John Valley; and Weddings of the St. John Valley. The students will help gather information and photos for books Pelletier hopes to publish on local history.
