Career Fair

The 14th annual Spring Career and Resource Fair will be held 1-4 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at Spectacular Event Center, 395 Griffin Road.

Sponsors include CareerCenter, Bangor Daily News, Maine Department of Labor, Greater Penobscot Continuum of Care and Eastern Maine Development Corp.

Participants will include Employment Options, a certified Social Security Administration Employment Network for the Ticket to Work program.

The primary goal of Employments Options is help beneficiaries who receive Social Security Disability or SSI to find suitable jobs for part-time or full-time positions.

 

The agency also serves employers nationwide in locating pre-screened applicants to fill work-at-home jobs. Employers can receive a tax credit of up to $2,400 per employee in the Ticket to Work program.

Walking sticks

Maine-made walking sticks for Maine veterans of World War II, Korea, Vietnam and the Global War on Terrorism are available for those who have not previously received one 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily with military ID or papers at the Cole Land Transportation Museum, 405 Perry Road.

Veterans with or without walking sticks are invited to march in the Memorial Day Parade at 10:30 p.m. Monday, May 30, beginning at the corner of State and Exchange streets in Bangor. Veterans unable to walk the parade route up Main Street to Davenport Park may ride in one of three Cyr buses.
