ROCKPORT — The many baby Belted Galloway calves will be the main attraction at Aldermere Farm’s annual Calf Unveiling Day 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 14, 20 Russell Ave., but the event is about much more than cute cows. The general public is invited to visit representatives of many other local farms and agricultural programs who will be on-site with animals, goods and information.
The free family event includes behind the scene tours of Aldermere Farm to visit the newly born Belted Galloway calves and a chance to see the farm’s 4-H club in action. Other activities include the Rusty Hinges band playing at 11 a.m. and the display of the Agricultural Poster Contest entries in which 206 local student in grades three through 12 made poster advertisements for local farms.
Farms on tap to attend the event are Terra Optima, Miller Farm, Savage Oakes, Good Karma Farm, Emma’s Family Farm and Sunnyside Farm. The agricultural programs and informational groups attending will Tanglewood 4-H Camp, Coastal Mountains Land Trust, Barefoot Books, Sweet Tree Arts, Coastal Children’s Museum, Holly Noonan, Chocolate Moose, Maine Coast Heritage Trust and more.
