PRINCETON, Maine — A local man was arrested Saturday and charged with aggravated forgery, according to Maine State Trooper Andrew Foss.

Theodore Mitchell, 24, allegedly cashed a $75 check that was misdelivered to his mailbox by forging the actual recipient’s name, Foss said. Although the amount of the check was small, Foss said the check was from the Passamaquoddy Tribal government.

Because the check was issued by a government agency, the charges were raised to a Class B felony, which is punishable by up to 10 years in jail and a $20,000 fine.
