PORTLAND, Maine — A high-end furniture company that has gone out of business in Maine is facing several lawsuits from creditors who are seeking more than $1 million.
Maine Cottage Furniture of Yarmouth closed in February after 23 years in business. In doing so, it owes money to vendors, customers and landlords.
The Portland Press Herald reports that Massachusetts-based furniture mover Clark & Reid has filed a lawsuit claiming Maine Cottage owes it more than $200,000 in unpaid bills. Jonathan Satter, who owns the building that housed Maine Cottage’s store in West Palm Beach, Fla., is seeking more than $1 million to cover a lease through 2017.
Maine Cottage’s attorney, Timothy Norton, declined to comment. Former Maine Cottage owner Peter Bass could not be reached for comment.
