ROCKPORT, Maine — A woman who fell asleep at the wheel badly damaged her car and a local business’s landscaping Saturday afternoon.

Kimberly Olson-Hraba, 49, of St. George was driving her 1990 Honda Civic on Route 1 in Rockport around 2 p.m. Saturday when she went off the road. Her car smashed into a cluster of decorative rocks outside PenBay Veterinary Associates and went airborne through the business’ sign. The car crossed a plot of flowers and broke through a fence.

“The rocks ripped her engine wide open. Antifreeze went everywhere,” said Rockport Police Department Patrolman Dana Smith.

The car was demolished. Olson-Hraba was uninjured.

Olson-Hraba has a medical problem that makes it unsafe for her to drive, according to Smith. She was driving with a suspended license and was charged for that crime, which carries a $1,000 fine and up to six months’ imprisonment.

Smith said she was wearing a seat belt. Her air bag did not deploy.

The Rockport Police Department and Camden First Aid responded to the accident call.
