CASTLETON, Vt. — Tom Crews of Bangor belted three home runs and accounted for nine RBIs Saturday afternoon, powering the Husson University baseball team to the North Eastern Athletic Conference championship with a 10-3 victory over Penn State-Berks in the second game of their NEAC championship series.

Husson also won the opener 2-1.

Coach Jason Harvey’s Eagles (29-15), the NEAC East Division champs, have earned the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship.

In the second game, Crews was a one-man wrecking crew for the Eagles. The junior outfielder hit a three-run home run in Husson’s four-run fourth inning, socked a two-run shot in a two-run fifth, and capped his day with a grand slam in the top of the ninth to put the contest out of reach.

He walked in his other at-bat.

Kyle Vanidestine of Bangor collected three singles and Nick Ververis singled twice in Husson’s 12-hit attack.

Nate Adams fired a six-hitter with four strikeouts and one walk.

Connor Corson hit a solo homer, Michael Ference doubled and singled and Geraldo Garcia had a two-run single for Penn State-Berks (18-21), the NEAC West winner.

In the first game, senior Ryan Arsenault pitched a six-hitter to pace the Eagles. He struck out 11 and walked two.

Husson tallied the winning run after Penn State-Berks had scored the tying run in the top of the seventh. The rally began after two were out when Dylan Foster reached on an error.

Jake Arthers followed with an infield single, then Ethan Guerrette walked to load the bases. Zach Guiles then walked Shawn Smith to force in the go-ahead run.

The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the fifth when Crews walked, moved up on a wild pitch and took third on Kevin Rennick’s sacrifice bunt. Crews scored on a wild pitch.

Penn State-Berks made it 1-1 in the seventh when Nick Vitelli reached on an error with one out and moved up on the throw. Corson followed with an RBI single.

The Nittany Lions then loaded the bases on consecutive singles, but Arsenault struck out the next two batters to preserve the tie.

Vanidestine doubled for Husson. Rich Schlamowitz and Ference each singled twice for PSB.
