Towing company buys idled Maine taxi business

The Associated Press

LEWISTON, Maine — A Maine taxi company that shut its doors after nearly 80 years in business has been bought by a towing company.

Auburn-based Ace Towing says it acquired City Cab of Lewiston on Tuesday for an undisclosed price with plans to put the company’s six cabs back on the road Wednesday.

City Cab’s previous owner shut the business down over the weekend, saying the company had been hurt by the economy and competition from nonprofit social service transportation options and public buses.

Ace Towing spokesman Roger Needham told the Sun Journal that the new owners think they can turn a profit and plan to aggressively market their services.
