AUGUSTA, Maine – The 2011 BikeMaine Event Calendar now is available free at bicycle and sports stores throughout the state in time for National Bike Month (May) and Maine’s Commute Another Way Week (May 16-20). The calendar also is posted online at the Bicycle Coalition of Maine’s website: www.BikeMaine.org.
The BikeMaine Event Calendar lists more than 70 weekly rides from Presque Isle to Wells. It also includes 130 bicycle races and one-day events such as the Camden Hills Fat Tire Festival, the 8th Annual White Mountains Memorial Day Classic in Fryeburg, Pedal the Penobscot in Bangor, the Maine Time Trial Series, the Annual Ride for Autism and the Cub Tracks Youth Tri at the University of Maine. The coalition has distributed 22,000 copies.
“We hope this calendar will encourage people to get on their bicycles and explore our beautiful state,” said Nancy Grant, the Bicycle Coalition’s executive director. “Biking is an inexpensive way to relax, exercise and spend time with friends and family. The calendar has events for all fitness levels.”
The Bicycle Coalition of Maine has been working since 1992 to make Maine a better place to bicycle. The coalition advocates for Maine cyclists at the Legislature and in Washington, D.C., teaches bicycle safety to thousands of Maine schoolchildren each year, partners with state agencies on a Share the Road media campaign and serves as a resource on local bicycling issues.
