Habitual offender facing driving, drug charges

By Dawn Gagnon, BDN Staff

BANGOR, Maine — A Brewer man whose license was suspended after the state deemed him a habitual offender of Maine’s motor vehicle laws was arrested on April 25 after a Bangor police officer pulled him over and then reportedly found drugs in his possession.

Jeffrey Mayhew, 26, was driving a gray Mazda 626 when Officer Dan Sanborn stopped him because he reportedly was swerving, Bangor police Sgt. Paul Edwards said Monday, citing an arrest report.

A search of Mayhew’s vehicle turned up methadone and Xanax,  Edwards said. Mayhew did not have a prescription for either drug, he said.

Mayhew was charged with operating after suspension and two counts of unlawful drug possession, Edwards said.
