DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine — State Police are investigating the shooting death of a man in Dover-Foxcroft Sunday evening.
Ryan Mayo, 20, was shot outside his home at 155 French Road, according to a press release issued by Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland. One man is being questioned in connection with the shooting as detectives attempt to determine the circumstances. Earlier reports indicated that two brothers were believed to be involved in the shooting.
Dover-Foxcroft police cordoned off the French Road leading to two small houses where the shooting reportedly took place. Police were seen covering a body outside one of the houses with a sheet.
Neighbors who asked not to be identified said they heard four to six shots in rapid succession as if someone were target shooting, but then said they heard screaming.
The Dover-Foxcroft Police Department and deputies from the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office are also assisting in the investigation. Mayo’s body was transported early this morning to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta for autopsy.
