Brewer’s Bissell earns player of year honors

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Former Brewer High School standout and current Gallaudet University freshman outfielder Billy Bissell has been named North Eastern Athletic Conference west division baseball player of the year and a first-team NEAC all-star.

Bissell, a 2009 Brewer High School graduate, rebounded from a season-ending knee injury in 2010 after seeing action in just eight games.

He led the combined NEAC/North Atlantic Conference in eight different offensive categories as of April 26. He was first in batting average (.461), slugging percentage (.765), on-base percentage (.574), hits (53), RBI (41), doubles (15), triples (four) and total bases (88).

Bissell also ranked second in home runs (four) and walks (24), fourth in runs scored (32) and fifth in hit by pitch (eight).

Bissell also was ranked nationally among all NCAA Division III players in several categories as of April 24, including eighth in on-base percentage, 10th in slugging percentage and 19th in batting average.

He also stole 14 bases in19 attempts this spring while starting all 39 games for the Bison. In the field he made 115 putouts, collected eight assists and posted a .961 fielding percentage.
