PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Presque Isle police arrested a local man after a high-speed car chase Saturday.

According to a press release from the Presque Isle Police Department, several complaints were received just before 9 a.m. Saturday about a black car operating recklessly on Main Street.

Officer Larry Fickett located the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Caron Street. Fickett signaled the vehicle to stop, but it did not, and a pursuit ensued covering Dobson, Verone, Harris, Dyer, Park and Allen streets and ended on Griffin Street where the vehicle stalled.

The operator of the vehicle, Jeffrey Shaw, 39 of Presque Isle, was arrested and charged with trafficking in Schedule W drugs (cocaine); operating while under the influence; eluding an officer; driving to endanger; and criminal mischief, according to the release.

Shaw also was charged with several traffic infractions and was unable to post bail, the release said.

Fickett was assisted by Sgt. Eric Erickson, Sgt. Laurie Kelly and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.
