Ham Radio Symposium to start with FCC license exam

ELLSWORTH, Maine — The Ellsworth Ham Radio Symposium will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at the Meadow View Apartments Phase IV Dining Hall on Tweedie Lane.

The event will feature solar power demonstrations, packet radio, Anderson Power Poles, antique ham radio display and more. The day will start with an FCC license examination at 8 a.m. For more information, call 598-5531.

Book sale at Blue Hill Public Library on May 7

BLUE HILL, Maine —The  Blue Hill Public Library first-Saturday-of-the-month book sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday,  May 7, in the library’s basement “book nook” during regular library hours.

Thousands of books are available at great bargains, including: Asian religions and philosophy; poetry, art and music; lots of new fiction, and much, much more for adults and children. Most books are just a dollar or two. Also available are DVDs, videotapes, audio books, and CDs.

Book sale proceeds enable the Friends to sponsor many of the programs offered at the library for children and adults, and to make special purchases of books, DVDs, etc., and equipment for the library .  For more information, call 374-5515.

Celebrate UMM Day to showcase students’ research, service

MACHIAS, Maine — Students at the University of Maine at Machias will showcase their research and service during the annual Celebrate UMM Day, at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 5, in Torrey Hall.

Celebrate UMM will feature presentations, posters, and displays prepared by student organizations and classes that highlight the work students have done during the academic year.

‘Aprons, Arms, Legs and Drawers’ show at Belfast gallery

BELFAST, Maine — Aarhus Gallery will hold an opening reception of “Aprons, Arms, Legs and Drawers,” a furniture show, from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday May 6. The show runs May 5-29, at 50 Main St. in  Belfast.

This exhibition is as much about furniture as of furniture. Aarhus Gallery has assembled a room full of Maine artists’ work with a central theme of furniture, i.e.: paintings, drawings, collage and sculpture.

11th Beth C. Wright Walk for Life planned in Addison
