Two arrested after alleged burglary, assault in Lubec

LUBEC, Maine — Two men were arrested Wednesday night after they allegedly forced their way into a Lubec home and assaulted the male resident.James Fitzgerald, 40, of Ellsworth and Michael Blanch, 35, of Silver Springs, Fla., were charged with Class B burglary. More charges are expected in connection with the incident, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. Class B crimes are punishable by up to 10 years in jail and fines of $20,000.

The injured victim was treated at Down East Community Hospital in Machias and released, Sheriff Donnie Smith said in a press release.

After the victim called for help, an investigation led to the arrests of both men without incident. They were taken to Washington County Jail and bail was set at $5,000 each. The men will make their first appearances in court on June 27.

Deputy Keith York of the Washington County Sheriff’s Office is the investigating officer. He was assisted at the scene by Smith, Sgt. Richard Rolfe, Deputy Ryan Allen and members of Down East EMS.
