Abbot man linked to burglary faces drug, theft charges

By Diana Bowley, BDN Staff

ABBOT, Maine — A search warrant was executed Thursday at the home of Kenneth McKusick, 34, who allegedly had been seen at about 3:30 p.m. Monday leaving another home in town that had been burglarized.

An alert neighbor called police when he spotted a man carrying bags from a Leeman Road home Monday and Investigator Alan Emerson of the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department immediately went to the scene. Emerson said he caught McKusick before McKusick had returned to his Back Abbot Road home. McKusick had stockpiled several items in the woods and had planned to return to retrieve them, according to Emerson.

Taken from the Leeman Road home were bags of cans and bottles, money, computer equipment, fly fishing rods, air compressors and tools, as well as keys.

Emerson and other deputies who executed the search warrant Thursday recovered items that allegedly had been taken from the home.

McKusick was charged with two counts of theft by unauthorized taking, two counts of unlawful possession of scheduled drugs (hydrocodone) and one count of burglary. He is in the Piscataquis County Jail. A status conference is set for 1 p.m. May 16 in Dover-Foxcroft District Court.
