BREWER, Maine — A Brewer man who plans to purchase the Muddy Rudder got a liquor and amusement license Thursday at a special Brewer City Council meeting.

After the council unanimously approved the two licenses, Councilor Larry Doughty said, “I just want to wish you good luck.”

When the meeting ended, Kessock said “thank you” to councilors as he left.

Kessock, a 1966 University of Maine graduate, donated $300,000 to the university for a new softball facility in July 1998. The facility now is known as the Kessock Softball Field.

In February, councilors also approved an amusement and liquor license for a Bangor developer  who planned to purchase the riverside restaurant, but that sale never was completed.

Kessock said after the meeting that he hopes to complete his purchase of the restaurant by June 1.
