Committee takes up cell phone warning bill

The Associated Press

AUGUSTA, Maine — A year after Maine lawmakers rejected a bill requiring warnings about cellular phone use, a Sanford lawmaker is back with a new version of the legislation.

Democratic Rep. Andrea Boland’s new bill faces a hearing Wednesday before the Energy, Utilities and Technology Committee. It calls for warning labels on cell phones, and notices would have to be posted by cell phone retailers warning users of potential health hazards and how to use cells phones more safely.

A year ago, a weakened version of a similar measure was rejected. It directed Maine’s health website to include links to existing federal cell phone advisories.
