American Red Cross lists blood drives across state

STATEWIDE — The American Red Cross, Northern New England Blood Services Region will hold blood drives in cities and towns throughout Maine.  All eligible and new donors are encouraged to give blood. The American Red Cross Donor Center, 900 B Hammond St. in Bangor is open for donations from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fridays and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. the first and the third Saturday of each month. Author Greenlaw to speak at USM’s 131st Commencement

PORTLAND, Maine — Best-selling author Linda Greenlaw will be the speaker for the University of  Southern Maine’s 131st Commencement at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 14, at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

Greenlaw will be awarded an honorary doctor of humane letters at the ceremony. For more information, 780-4200.

‘(F)light’ premiere at Woodfords church in Portland

PORTLAND, Maine — Aroostook County composer Erica Quin-Easter will celebrate the premiere of “(F)light,” a new work exploring the issues, conflicts and contemporary experience of the borderlands.

The Women in Harmony chorus will feature the work in a spring concert, “Moving On: Immigration in Song” at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 14, and at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at Woodfords Congregational Church in Portland. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit www.wihmaine.org.
