OWLS HEAD — Glen Jenks will be guest speaker at a meeting of the Owls Head Garden Club at noon Wednesday, May 4, at the Owls Head Community Building.  Jenks will speak at 1:15 p.m. on the topic “Beautiful Roses.” His first encounter with horticulture came in his ninth-grade year, when he fell in love with growing roses. He continues to grow them at his home in Camden with his wife, Faith Getchell. They are responsible for installing and maintaining the small cottage rose garden at Merryspring Horticultural Park, where Jenks was a board member for nine years and which he recently rejoined. He frequently is called upon to lecture on the subject of roses and gardening in general and was former editor of the Mid-Maine Rose Society’s monthly newsletter, “The Briar Patch.” Jenks also is a ragtime pianist and avid birder, among his many other professional duties.

Garden Club hostesses for the meeting are Annette Brooks, Evelyn Eilers, Tobey

Lombardo and Audrey Payson. Visitors and prospective members are welcome to attend. For more information, call Dottie at 596-6032.
