Man found shot in Buckfield was Bath Iron Works welder, police say

BATH — State police are continuing to investigate the shooting death of a Buckfield man they identified Thursday as a Bath Iron Works welder.

According to a news release issued Thursday by Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, Gregg Belanger, 51, was found dead Wednesday night at his home on Darnit Road in Buckfield.

Belanger’s former wife, Denise Belanger, 48, reportedly found the body, then called 911 at 8:30 p.m.

On Thursday, McCausland said, the State Medical Examiner’s Office was scheduled to start an autopsy, as detectives continued gathering evidence at the ranch-style home in Buckfield.
