Bangor police investigate rash of car burglaries

By Dawn Gagnon, BDN Staff

BANGOR, Maine — Bangor police are investigating a rash of car burglaries believed to have occurred late Thursday night or early Friday morning.

Eight complaints were called in to the Police Department between about 6 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., according to a law incident summary report issued Friday by the Penobscot Regional Communications Center.

“Typically, these burglaries happen overnight, and with warmer weather coming, more people are out and about,” Bangor police Sgt. Brad Johnston said Friday.

In most cases, thieves hit vehicles that are not locked and help themselves to loose change, CDs and electronic items such as iPods and cell phones, Johnston said.

“People need to be sure that their cars are locked when they go in for the night and if they see anything suspicious, give us a call,” he said.
