Online seminars offered to help Maine groups prepare for AmeriCorps grant competition

Updated:

AUGUSTA, Maine — A four-part online seminar is being offered starting in May to help Maine organizations prepare for this fall’s AmeriCorps grant competition.

The grant competition will be the first since adoption of new funding priorities at the federal and state levels. It is also the first major round of grants for AmeriCorps State funds since passage of the Serve America Act.

Participation in the seminar, “A New Era for AmeriCorps State Program Grants,” requires high-speed or DSL access to the Internet and the ability to be on a telephone at the same time the Internet connection is used.

Participants will be assigned work to complete before seminar sessions, including the first one.

All sessions are from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on the following Wednesdays: May 11, May 25, June 15 and July 6.

There is no registration fee for the series. However, each caller will incur a conference call charge of approximately $13 per session.

To register, visit www.MaineServiceCommission.gov and complete the “Assessment of Readiness for an AmeriCorps State Program.” Follow the seminar registration link at the end of the assessment to sign up. For information, contact the Maine Commission for Community Service at service.commission@maine.gov or call 624-7660.
