By Staff, The Times Record

PHIPPSBURG, Maine — An official with the Maine Marine Patrol confirmed today that the body of a man believed to be lost Phippsburg fisherman Richard “Dick” Lemont was recovered on Sewall Beach.

Sgt. Rene Cloutier told The Times Record that a person walking on the beach discovered the body at around 10 a.m. Thursday. He said the body had been taken to the state medical examiner’s office but authorities have “tentatively identified” him as Lemont, who last was seen setting off into the Kennebec River from Phippsburg around noontime April 7.

His aluminum skiff later was  discovered circling unattended near Perkins Ledge, and a multiagency search of the river and its environs by water, air and land took place over a nearly 24-hour period. U.S. Coast Guard officials called off the search just after noon April 8.
