WASHINGTON — America East Commissioner Patrick Nero will be the new athletic director at George Washington.
The school announced Wednesday that Nero would succeed Jack Kvancz, who is retiring this summer after 17 years on the job.
Nero has been the America East commissioner since 2005. He was previously the AD at the University of Maine and a senior associate athletic director at the University of Miami.
He has also served on the NCAA Division I Leadership Council, the NCAA Management Council and the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Board of Directors. He is a 1987 graduate of Providence.
Nero’s hiring comes as GW undertakes a comprehensive review that is exploring ways to raise the university’s national profile in sports.
