The Gear Box: Nite Ize S-Biner Ahhhh

Nite Ize S-Biner Ahhhh Price: $4

The best gear you can own lasts a long time and is multipurpose.

Such is the case of the Nite Ize S-Biner Ahhh, a stainless steel, S-shaped caribiner with wire gates for both ends. I use caribiners to clip gear to the deck lines on my kayaks, and since I paddle on both freshwater and saltwater, I make sure anything that is clipped to my deck rigging is stainless steel.

One use is tethering my water bottle to the deck bungees. I usually loop one end of the tether line to the deck lines, the other to the S-Biner, which in turn is clipped to the water bottle. The line is long enough to allow me to drink from the bottle without unclipping it, but when I take a break ashore, the clip allows me to easily remove the bottle and take it with me.

When not afloat, the S-Biner Ahhh is a multifunctional. You can use to attach and carry keys, or hang lanterns and lights; or clip two items together. And when it’s time to pop the top off your favorite bottled beverage, both ends of the S-Biner Ahhh serve as a bottle opener. At home I find that I reach for it instead of the regular bottle opener I have hanging in the kitchen.

Available in black and stainless steel for about $4.
