SALEM, Mass. — Prosecutors say a 26-year-old Salem, Mass., father shoved a baby wipe in his 7-week-old son’s mouth when he cried and later threw him 3 feet to the floor.

Dario Finkel did not enter a plea at his arraignment Wednesday on charges of attempted murder, child endangerment and assault. He was ordered held without bail until a dangerousness hearing April 27, which his lawyer didn’t oppose.

Salem District Court Judge Michael Lauranzano also granted a restraining order to keep Finkel from contact with his wife, Jennifer, and their son, for a year.

Prosecutor Michelle DeCourcey said the mother removed the wipe from the baby’s mouth Tuesday night and tried to calm Finkel, but he later threw the baby to the floor and then at her.

The baby is reported in good condition at a hospital.
