Vermont police say man stole friend’s truck

The Associated Press

NEWPORT, Vt. — Police in Vermont say a man who couldn’t get a friend to lend him his truck decided to take it anyway. Now, he’s facing charges.

Twenty-year-old Elijah Emerson, of West Charleston, is charged with felony aggravated operation of a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent in the Oct. 6 incident.

Vermont State Police say Emerson asked Michael Amatruda to help him move a camper, but Amatatruda said no because he had plans that night. At about 3 a.m., police say, Emerson and another person were seen climbing into the truck and driving off.

The Caledonian-Record reports that Emerson pleaded guilty April 12 in Orleans Superior Court and was released.
