AUGUSTA, Maine — Most Maine state employees are getting another unpaid day off, giving them an extra-long Patriot’s Day weekend.
Game wardens, state troopers, rangers and others whose jobs are deemed essential are on duty Tuesday. Also on duty are state tax help line workers as the deadline arrives for Mainers to file their state tax returns.
But most state offices will be closed as a cost-saving measure to help balance the budget.
Tuesday is the 19th of 20 state government closure days adopted over the past two years to save money. The final shutdown day is the Friday before Memorial Day.
