STEUBEN – Alfred D. Parritt, 74, passed away unexpectedly Friday, April 15, 2011, at his home. He was born March 12, 1937, in Gouldsboro, the son of Leslie and Myra Parritt of Steuben.
He graduated from Sumner High School in 1955. Fred was well known as an incredible hard worker from a young boy and throughout his life. He enjoyed his work as a self-employed lobsterman in addition to many other ocean-related jobs. Fred loved working and being outdoors, nature, the sounds and smell of the ocean, as well as the calm peacefulness working on or near the ocean brought him. He enjoyed the closeness of family and family gatherings. Fred was a member of Maine Lobstermen Association and also was a longtime member of Shepherd’s Chapel, Gravette, Ark., with Pastor Arnold Murry.
He was predeceased by his father, Leslie Parritt; and granddaughter, Jennifer Davis. Alfred is survived by his sister, Roberta and her husband, George McLaughlin, of Waltham, Mass.; two brothers, Leslie and Ronnie and his wife, Julie, of Steuben; his daughter, Evelyn and her husband, Daniel; granddaughter, Jordan Smith of southern Maine; son, Craig Light of San Jose, Calif.; uncle, Durrell Moore of Gouldsboro; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 21, at Corea Cemetery. A celebration of Fred’s and Myra’s lives will be afterward at 28 Navy Drive, Winter Harbor. A service of Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Homes. Condolences may be sent at
