KITTERY, Maine — A 3-year-old child was rescued from a pond and saved after being given CPR.

The Portsmouth Herald reported that emergency responders were calling Saturday’s event in a pond in Kittery a “near drowning.”

Police and firefighters were called to an area off Norton Road at about 6 p.m. Saturday. The child was given cardiopulmonary resuscitation and taken to a hospital.

A Kittery police dispatcher said Sunday that no further information was immediately available.
