APPLETON – Basil G. Gushee, 79, died April 14, 2011. He was born Dec. 3, 1931, in Appleton, to Roland J. Gushee and Sylvia Overlock Gushee.
He was first employed working at Maurice Collins’ garage in Appleton. He had worked for Augusta State Hospital; Union Telephone Co.; B.M. Clark, Union; Hilti Fastening Co.; and as a poultry farmer for 20 years. He also owned Tri-Corner Market, Appleton, for many years. In his later years he owned Navigator Restaurant, Rockland, and East Side Restaurant, Union. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family. He was a true family man, enjoying his time at family gatherings and the holidays. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army.
He was predeceased by his parents; son, Basil Gerry Gushee; and brother, Stanford Gushee. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jacquelyn of Appleton; son, Gordon James Gushee of Camden; daughter, Debra Gushee MacMillan and her husband, David, of Appleton; sister, Faustina Bryant and her husband, David, of Warren; grandsons, Ryan Lanphere and his wife, Erica, of Appleton and Nicholas Gushee O’Hara and his wife, Lindsey, of Hope; great-grandchildren, Mason and Althea Lanphere of Appleton; several nieces and nephews. Basil’s family gives a special thanks to Togus, Pen Bay Medical Center and Knox Health Care Center.
A graveside service with military honors will be held 2 p.m. Friday, April 22, at Pine Grove Cemetery, Appleton, with the Rev. Mark Adolphsen officiating.
