Bangor man arrested for hitting girlfriend

A 36-year-old woman called police Thursday night saying her boyfriend was hurting her. He later was arrested and she was taken to the hospital, Bangor police Lt. Steve Hunt said Friday.

Robert Kerr, 39, who has “been locked up for assault a few times” was arrested at around 5 p.m. and charged with domestic violence assault, he said. He was taken to Penobscot County Jail and remained there Friday evening, a jail official said.

The victim was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center for a head injury, Hunt said.

A Waterville man stopped by the Leadbetter’s Mini Stop at the intersection of Ohio and Hammond streets late Thursday and tried to leave the store without paying for a carton of cigarettes, Bangor police Lt. Steve Hunt said Friday.

Ricky L. Barrett, 21, was arrested at around 9:25 p.m. and charged with theft. He was taken to Penobscot County Jail and was released Friday, a jail official said.
