Gibbs Library “Dig It” Team seeks plant donations

WASHINGTON — Gibbs Library is seeking gardeners who will “dig in” to gather perennials for its annual Garage and Outdoor Plant Sale on May 14. Library volunteers, the Dig It Team, will travel to the donor’s garden and gently divide and pot the offered plants.

The library is seeking perennial, vegetable seedling and herb plant donations. Houseplants are not accepted.

The garage and plant sale is the major fundraiser for Gibbs Library. “Because our perennials are so healthy and offered at such a great price, we sell out early,” said Peg Hobbs, Dig It team leader. “Our local gardeners donate a wide variety of perennials, and our customers are always excited about the selection.”

Hobbs said the green shoots of perennials are visible despite the late snowstorms.  “This is a great time to donate perennials,” Hobbs said. “The shoots are still small enough to divide and by May can easily be purchased and replanted and grown into beautiful, robust plants.”

The Dig It Team has all the supplies needed and is willing to travel throughout the area to accept plant donations. To donate, call Peg Hobbs at 845-2900 or email gibbslibrary@hotmail.com

The May 14 Garage and Plant Sale will be held at the Washington Fire Station, next to the library, on Old Union Road.
