Raider Rubber Duck Race on tap in East Machias

EAST MACHIAS –  The inaugural Raider Rubber Duck Race to benefit Project Graduation activities for Washington Academy’s Class of 2011 will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 23, on the East Machias River. Adopted ducks will meet at the East Machias Park before the start of the race.  Each adopted duck will be numbered and entered into the Duck Race. The top placing ducks will win cash prizes. The Raider Rubber Duck Race first prize is $100. The “adopted parent” of the second-place duck will win $50 and the third prize is $25.

People interested in supporting the Raider Rubber Duck Race can “adopt” their ducks for $5 each by contacting a W.A. Senior class member or by calling W.A. at 255-8301.

Bucksport Chamber to hold awards dinner April 29

BUCKSPORT – The Bucksport Area Chamber of Commerce annual awards dinner will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, April 29, at the Alamoosook Lakeside Inn in Orland. Guest speaker will be Charles S. Workshop to focus on growing wheat in Washington County

EAST MACHIAS – The Down East Conservation and Development Council will host a workshop to discuss growing wheat in Washington County from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 29, at the Jacksonville Grange on Douglas Street in East Machias.  The registration fee is $15 and you must register by April 22. H.O.M.E. Coop in Orland to hold fish fry dinner

ORLAND – A fish fry dinner is slated from 5  to 7 p.m. Friday, April 15, at H.O.M.E. Coop in Orland.  Menu includes fried haddock, mashed potatoes, coleslaw and homemade biscuits. The cost for dinner is $7 with a sliding scale for larger families. For more information, call 469-7961.

H.O.M.E. meeting on tap in Bucksport

BUCKSPORT – H.O.M.E.’s 41st annual meeting and potluck supper is at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, April 28,  at the St. Vincent De Paul Parish Hall in Bucksport. A featured guest  from Maine Equal Justice Partners in Augusta will speak about the multifaceted community development organization whose programs are based on meeting people’s basic needs for shelter, food, useful work and health care.
