CASTINE — Maine Maritime Academy’s chapter of Students in Free Enterprise and the student club, Student Environmental Activists, will sponsor an eWaste Drive for the Castine area 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, at the MMA Fieldhouse.
The event is free of charge to the campus community and the general public.
According to student organizers, materials collected at the drive will be handled by a professional recycling crew from eWaste Recycling Solutions, LLC of Auburn. Materials that will be accepted at the drive will include computer monitors, televisions, console televisions, desktop copiers-printers, scanners, fax machines, central processing units, laptops, UPS batteries (battery backup systems) and other computer peripherals (mouse, keyboard, speakers, etc.).
Items that will not be collected at the drive include anything containing freon, fluorescent lamps-PCBs, mercury devices or batteries (except for those that are contained in a laptop computer or MP3 player). Items will not be accepted for dropoff after posted event hours, and the event will close promptly at 1 p.m.
Maritime academy board of trustees to meet
CASTINE — The board of trustees of Maine Maritime Academy will hold a regular quarterly meeting at 4 p.m. Friday, April 29, in the Holmes Alumni Heritage Room at the Harold Alfond Student Center.
Standing committees of the board will meet at various times during the day before the full board meeting.
Downeast Dog Scouts win recognition
ELLSWORTH — The Downeast Dog Scouts organization has earned the 2010 Silver President’s Volunteer Service Award recognizing its service to the community.
As a group, troop members completed more than 500 hours of community service during the past year. Troop members Pam Bourque, Pier Carros and Robyn Douglas also completed between 100 and 249 hours of volunteer community service and earned individual Bronze President’s Volunteer Service Awards.
Also, for the third year, the Downeast Dog Scouts Troop 159 has been recognized as a “Top Dog Troop” for 2010 by the Dog Scouts of America for being active and helping in their community. Downeast Dog Scouts is a local nonprofit subgroup of the Dog Scouts of America, which promotes responsible dog ownership and involvement in the community.

Book sale planned at Ellsworth library
ELLSWORTH — The Friends of the Ellsworth Public Library will hold its Spring Cleaning Book Sale at the end of this month in the Riverview Room of the library.
Sale hours are 4 to 7p.m. Thursday, April 28; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, April 29; and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 30.
Funds raised by the Friends group are used to support multiple library programs which are available to everyone free of charge. For more information call the library at 667-6363.
Free health fair to be held in Schoodic area
SULLIVAN — The first annual Schoodic Area Health Fair will be held 1-3 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at the Sorrento-Sullivan Recreation Center in Sullivan.
Sponsored by Frenchman’s Bay Library, Sorrento Fire and Rescue, Eleanor Widener Dixon Memorial Clinic and Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, the health fair will provide free health screenings to the public.

Dog Scouts plan yard sale in Somesville
MOUNT DESERT — Downeast Dog Scouts Troop 159 will sponsor a yard sale 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 16, at the Somesville Fire Station.
Donations for the yard sale will be accepted from noon to 6 p.m. Friday, April 15, at the station. All proceeds from the yard sale will go toward the Downeast Dog Scouts Community Service Projects and Community Education Programs.

Emmaus Homeless Shelter to hold Spring Fest Concert & Auction
ELLSWORTH — The Emmaus Homeless Shelter will hold its sixth annual fundraising concert and auction 1-4:30 p.m. Sunday, May 1, at the Ellsworth Middle-Elementary School.
More than 140 local businesses have donated items for the live and silent auction. Entertainment will be provided by Big Moose Band and Joyful Jazz Band.
