School vacation kite-building workshops

OWLS HEAD — The Owls Head Transportation Museum announced its schedule for free kite-building workshops that will be held during school vacation week, April 18-22. Two workshops will be held each day at 10 a.m. and 11:30 am. A different style kite will be built each day:

• Monday, April 18: Sled kite.

• Tuesday, April 19: Diamond kite.

• Wednesday, April 20: Butterfly kite.

• Thursday, April 21: Delta kite.

• Friday, April 22: Snake kite.

Registration is suggested as space is limited, but participants can register the day of the event. Admission to the workshops is free. All building materials will be provided courtesy of E.L. Spear of Rockland.

Admission for visitors who would like to view the museum is $10, $8 seniors, free to children younger than 18.

The week culminates Saturday, April 23, with the annual Kites, Bikes and Trikes, a family festival. Families are invited to to bring a kite to fly or a bike to ride. There will be kite-flying demonstrations by the Nor’easters kite club, a bike parade and the second annual Cardboard Contraption Contest. Also, learn to ride a bike on the museum’s flat and car-free Runway 17.
