UMF softball team sweeps UMPI


KENTS HILL — The University of Maine at Farmington’s Meaghan Donnell singled home Shannon Mitchell to tie it in the bottom of the seventh inning and Casey Mull knocked in Samantha Morency to lift the Beavers over the University of Maine at Presque Isle 8-7 in a softball doubleheader Monday.
The Beavers also won the first game 10-1.
In the first game, Emma Vaillancourt allowed one run in five innings and struck out six to lead UM-Farmington. Mitchell homered and Lily Barry tripled and singled with two RBIs. Donnell doubled and singled with two runs and Mull had two singles and scored two runs.
Lainey Herring hit two singles and drove in Desiree Smith for the Owls. Emily Moore also singled.
In the second game, Liz Sargent hit a solo home run for the Beavers. Mull had two singles with an RBI and Mitchell tripled and scored twice.
Brittany Humphrey led UMPI with a double, single, two RBIs and two runs scored. Kathleen Higgins hit two singles, scored two runs and knocked in two runs.
