Should Maine be compared to New Hampshire?

Critics of Maine state policy — most recently, Gov. Paul LePage — often cite tax, employment and business statistics from neighboring New Hampshire to show our shortcomings. Is this fair? New Hampshire gets tax revenue from different sources than Maine does, and its proximity to the Greater Boston economy boosts its economic vitality.
