MECHANIC FALLS, Maine — Maine State Police say excessive speed may be to blame in a car crash that killed two teenagers and sent two young adults to the hospital.

Police spokesman Stephen McCausland told the Sun Journal that 19-year-old Adam Nile and 18-year-old Britney Lee Wentworth of Poland were killed when a car driven by Nile crashed around 9:30 p.m. Friday into trees on Elm Street in Mechanic Falls. He said two witnesses reported seeing the car speeding.

McCausland said two passengers who were in the back seat — 21-year-old Zachary Sutton of South Paris and 19-year-old Rodney Westleigh of Auburn — were taken to a Lewiston hospital.
