BANGOR, Maine — Toby Keith is officially locked into the Bangor Waterfront Concerts Series and he’s loaded with plenty of hit songs to wow legions of fans, both his and those of country western music in general.

Keith is bringing his “Locked & Loaded” tour to Bangor for a 5 p.m. Saturday, July 9, show that will also feature opening act Eric Church.

It’s the culmination of a yearlong effort for Waterfront Concerts representatives.

“It’s actually kind of funny because we didn’t really look into this as much this year as much as we did a year ago,” said Waterfront Concerts promoter Alex Gray of Old Town. “This was supposed to be one of our first shows, as we were looking at holding it at the Oxford Fairgrounds, but when we finally got everything set up in Bangor, they had already finalized their tour.”

Gray said the foundation for this concert date in Bangor was laid last year.

“With all the interest we had and his widespread popularity, we’re obviously very pleased,” Gray said. “It’s the one act that country fans have been consistently asking for since we started up.”

The man with 15 studio albums to his credit and an ongoing streak of 18 consecutive years with at least one song rising to the top of the charts will treat fans to selections from his most recent album, “Bullets in the Gun,” as well as longtime favorites such as “American Soldier,” “Beer for My Horses,” “A Little Less Talk and a Lot More Action,” “Love This Bar,” “How do you Like Me Now?!,” “Should’ve Been a Cowboy,” “I’m So Happy I Can’t Stop Crying,” “Who’s Your Daddy?” and “As Good As I Once Was.”

Tickets will go on sale for the show at 10 a.m. Friday at Mark’s Music store in Brewer, online at www.waterfrontconcerts.com, and by phone at 783-2009. Prices for reserved seats are $129.50, $69.50, $59.50 and $35.50. Other options include a “thrust” section with seating on the sides of a big ‘T’ that extends from the stage where Keith will perform for $99.50 apiece. Lawn seats cost $25.50 apiece not including service and handling fees.

The five-time country male vocalist of the year (Country Music Association once, Academy of Country Music twice, American Music Awards twice) has three albums that have been named country album of the year (“Shock’n Y’all twice,” “Unleashed” and “How do You Like Me Now?!”) and has been churning out hits for two decades now — including 19 No. 1 singles — and was named country artist of the decade by Billboard magazine.

Keith, 49, is the married father of three and a grandfather to daughter Shelley’s daughter. He is known as a patriotic American and strong supporter of U.S. military forces and veterans.

“He’s super patriotic and does a ton of work with the USO. With Maine having a lot of military families, there’s a close tie-in there,” Gray said.

This will be Keith’s first performance in Maine since 2008.

“His marketing people are very excited to be back in this area,” Gray said. “They played Cumberland County Civic Center (in Portland) three years ago and sold out two shows. This should be one of the biggest shows of the summer.”
