Outlook: The Black Bears jump into league play against the prohibitive preseason favorite. UMaine has won three straight and four of its last five, but has not played since March 27 because of weather and field conditions. The Bears continue to search for stability on the mound and consistency at the plate. The veteran Seawolves have won six of their last eight and 14 of 17. Stony Brook features AE’s top pitcher in Tropeano, who heads a staff that has allowed two runs or less in 10 of its last 12 games, including three shutouts. SBU boasts a sparkling 3.47 team ERA with 163 strikeouts and 62 walks in 197 1/3 innings.
