PROSPECT — Volunteers are needed to team up with the Friends of Fort Knox and the Civil War Preservation Trust 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 16, to help clean up the fort site in preparation for its opening on May 1. CHARLESTON — An apple pruning demonstration will take place 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 30, at Olmstead Orchard on Route 15, about six miles north of Corinth village. Donna Coffin, educator from the Penobscot and Piscataquis offices of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, will discuss apple pest management. MOUNT DESERT — The Downeast Dog Scouts Troop 159 yard sale will be held 8 a.m.-noon Saturday, April 16, Somesville Fire Station, corner of Route 102 and Pretty Marsh Road. Donations for the yard sale accepted noon-6 p.m. Friday, April 15, at the fire station. Proceeds to benefit Downeast Dog Scouts community service and education programs.
