VERONA ISLAND – Marion Elizabeth (Smith) Seekins, 56, died suddenly April 4, 2011, at a Bangor hospital, after a brief illness. She was born Nov. 17, 1954, in Jonesport, the daughter of Irving E. and Margaret (Chandler) Smith.

Marion was an active member of Orland Homemakers Extension. She attended Bucksport High School and graduated in 1973.

She is survived by her parents, Irving E. and Margaret (Chandler) Smith; her loving husband of 36 years, Brent H. Seekins of Verona Island; two daughters, Melissa Proper and her husband, Chug, of Deer Isle and Christy Haskell and her husband, Justin, of Franklin; two loving granddaughters, Katye Proper of Deer Isle and Ashley Haskell of Franklin; three brothers, Harvey Smith and his wife, Marlene, of Verona Island, Richard Smith and his partner, Polly Gilley, of East Orland and Daniel Smith and his wife, Leonila, of East Orland; many uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces; a wonderful friend, Donna Higginbotham of Verona Island; and her adopted daughter, Dawn Nault. She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Lee I. and Susan E. (Palmer) Smith; and her maternal grandparents, Henry and Marion (Chester) Chandler.

There will be a celebration of Marion’s life 1-3 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at Verona Island Rod & Gun Club. Cards may be sent to Melissa Proper, 243 Greenlaw District Road, Deer Isle, ME 04627.
