AUGUSTA, Maine — A 43-year-old Portland man is facing charges for allegedly collecting more than $3,000 in state unemployment checks while he was behind bars.

Vincent John Cueto was indicted Monday on a charge of theft by deception for taking funds from the Maine Department of Labor while he was in jail in Augusta.

The Kennebec Journal says Cueto was serving time after his December conviction on two counts of domestic violence.

Monday’s indictment also charged Cueto with violation of condition of release because he allegedly had contact with a potential witness in the case.
