Dimmen signs amateur tryout with Portland Pirates

Former University of Maine defenseman Jeff Dimmen has agreed to an amateur tryout with the Portland Pirates, the American Hockey League’s affiliate of the Buffalo Sabres.

Dimmen, who served as an assistant captain his senior campaign, has played in two games with the Pirates and has yet to register a point.

The Pirates were in Worcester, Mass., taking on the Sharks on Tuesday night.

Dimmen played in 135 career games for the Black Bears, scoring 27 goals and dishing out 47 assists.

Those numbers helped him earn Hockey East second-team accolades. Dimmen also earned Maine Scholar-Athlete honors and was named to the Hockey East Academic Honor Roll.

Despite being hampered by injuries his senior year, he scored seven goals and added nine assists in 29 games.

Dimmen is now the fifth former Maine player to sign a professional contract since the end of the season, joining Gustav Nyquist, Tanner House, Mike Banwell and Josh Van Dyk.
