Lincolnville Fire Department to burn down motel in training exercise

By Heather Steeves, BDN Staff

LINCOLNVILLE, Maine — Bright and early Saturday morning the Lincolnville Fire Department will begin a controlled burn of a 60-year-old motel.

“Very, very seldom does it ever happen. Especially something this massive,” said Lincolnville fire chief Jason Peasley.

The owner of Snow Hill Lodge, which has not been in operation for several months, offered Peasley the building for fire department training purposes. So far, the department has used the donated motel to learn how to enter rooms by breaking through doors and to perform drills that required the firemen to feel as though they were trapped in a burning motel room.

Saturday at 9 a.m. the department will complete the burn. The training will go through the afternoon.

Peasley said this will be an especially worthy training seminar because there are so many motels on Route 1 in the area.

“We’re definitely fortunate, for a small town, to get something like this,” he said.
