A Massachusetts woman who parked along the side of the road early Monday to talk on her cell phone attracted the attention of University of Maine police, who discovered she had been drinking, UM spokesman Joe Carr said Monday.
Elizabeth Eglin, 21, of Worcester, Mass., pulled over to the side of Alfond Road and “people were driving around her,” he said. Police who checked on her at around 3:15 a.m. immediately smelled the odor of alcohol, Carr said. Eglin failed a field sobriety test and her Intoxilyzer test showed her blood alcohol level exceeded the state’s legal limit of 0.08, he said.
Eglin, who is not a student, was arrested on a charge of operating under the influence and taken to Penobscot County Jail in Bangor, Carr said.
