ELLSWORTH, Maine — Police are seeking help in identifying whoever shot BBs at and damaged several windows in the downtown area in the past several days.

According to Officer Gil Jameson of the Ellsworth Police Department, the problem actually began last week when a window at T&B Title of Ellsworth on High Street was damaged by BBs. Over the past weekend, someone also damaged three windows at the Ellsworth Middle-Elementary School, a window at Oz Cabinets on the corner of Main Street and Grant Avenue, a window at Eyes on Water Street, and three windows at Burger King on High Street. In all, nine windows have been damaged by BBs so far.

This type of mischief often comes in waves, Jameson said Monday, and can be very expensive. He said he has not yet received estimates from the different sites that were damaged. But some of the damaged windows were large and, if they were double-paned, the entire unit will have to be replaced even if only the outer pane was damaged.

Anyone with information about the crimes can contact the Ellsworth Police Department at 667-2168 or, if they wish to remain anonymous, 669-6614.
